Ellis & Co have an established reputation of excellence in masonry and associated wet trades.
We work with local stone from the time it arrives from the quarry until it is fixed in situ. Once it has arrived at our yard, the stone undergoes sawing, carving and dressing by our specialist staff in our purpose built workshop.
We employ banker masons, fixer masons and bricklayers with specialist heritage skills. They undertake all aspects of masonry including stone carving, tracery work, poultice cleaning, piecing in masonry to building new walls and facades and full restoration work. We prepare specialist mortar mixes under advice from our Director of Conservation. Our work is sometimes visible in the many churches, stately homes and monuments we have repaired across the South West, however, our craftsmen are skillfull at blending repairs with the structure and fabric of the historic buildings that we work with.

Vicars Close, Wells

We are currently undertaking major restoration and conservation works at Vicars Close in Wells. Houses on Vicars Close date back to the C14th, built to accommodate the Vicars Choral at Wells Cathedral. Once completed, parts of the street will open as an innovative new visitors attraction.
